St. Augustine's Chapel at Vanderbilt

Mar 25, 2019

The geranium oil poured out like turquoise fire—an oil for the healing of the world—it can build houses, educate children, repel mosquitos, and it can heal war weary souls. The fire. The agent that releases the essence of a plant and washes away the rest. It reminds us, all of creation is Holy Ground and a symbol of God’s love for all of time. And like Moses, fire is used for an image of the holiness of God. If you want the Spirit, look for the fire. The bush in our story today was blazing but not consumed. It is what we long for—it dances on our souls, and calls us out, and cleanses us. It distills our should like oil. We want a fire in our belly that calls us to new life. Sermon begins at 14:10.
