Easter begins with grief. As the sun was rising over the earth that morning, the sky was still gray. But Mary Magdalene left anyway, with oil in her hands to tend to Jesus body—the source of love that she knew. Easter doesn’t begin when the skies are sunny or when the pandemic passes, or when justice reigns. It begins when it is still dark and all we have is raw love. We glimpse at love’s rising.
